Selig Approves Jays trade. LCHL, GBGHL, SJCGHL in full swing and the Dogs back in action this weekend.

MLB Commissioner Bud Selig gives his reason for accepting the Blue jays Blockbuster deal saying it “represents the exercise of plausible baseball judgement on the part of both Clubs.” This comment is courtesy of a tweet sent out by @ShiDavidi this afternoon. I like it and all the Jays need now is to finalize a new bench boss and it should be an entertaining summer of baseball for T.O. in 2013!

Last night I went to check out a game between the Canadians and Lumber Kings in LCHL action last night at the Peter G Murray Arena. It was a battle between to undefeated teams with identical 5-0-2 records, tied for 1st place, through 7 games to start the season. It was quite the barn burner last night as the Canadians came back from being down 3-0 to make it 3-3 with about two minutes left and then thirty seconds later went up 4-3, only to have the Lumber Kings tie it 4-4 with seven seconds left. Long story short both teams are still undefeated. For more info check out the league website

The Sea Dogs are back home after being on the road for about three weeks and entertain Cape Breton and Baie-Comeau Saturday/Sunday. The Dogs play Saturday at 7:00pm and Sunday at 3:00pm.

CGHL 2012 Season under way and LCHL just around the corner.

I’ll be getting back into the swing of local hockey coverage for the 2012/13 season after a bit of a hiatus from the end of the local baseball seasons.

Follow along all season long for updates and input. I am also seeking input, contribution and opinion from anyone who is interested in bringing back local coverage of all sports in Saint John as there is minimal coverage. We need to bring back coverage for local sports and broaden the spectrum for all those interested, instead of a random paragraph in the local newspaper.

SJCGHL Finals Stretched to the limit!

Game 5 of the best of 5 Finals goes tonight at the Hilton Belyea Arena, game time 10:00pm. It’s a late game, but one of the only series left in the city playing at the only rink left as well! The game tonight should be quite entertaining! Vito’s took game one, but the Wharf Rats stormed back with a 3-0 and 4-1 win in games 2 & 3, but lost a tight one this past Sunday 4-3 with about a minute left in regulation. The Wharf Rats look to redeem themselves after a tough loss against a veteran Vito’s squad!

SJCGHL Finals set for Monday night at the LBR

The Moosehead Wharf Rats lost game one after a bad St. Paddy’s Day hangover, but stormed back to defeat the Silver Bullets in two games to win their semi final series and make it to the finals in just their second year in the league. The Saint John Vito’s have swept both their series so far and will have their hands full with the speedy and young Wharf Rats.

The best of 5 Finals start Monday, March 26th, at 7:30pm at the LBR.

SJCGHL Playoffs continue tonight and tomorrow at the LBR

The Wharf Rats found themselves down 3-0 after a flurry of three goals within :49 seconds and could not come back against the Silver Bullets. It was a fast paced and entertaining game for the most part, but one shift killed the confidence for the team. It is do or die for the Wharf Rats if they look to extend their playoff hopes in the Semi Finals. Game time tonight is 8:45. In the early game the Vito’s face off once again against RE/MAX at 7:30. The Vito’s got past RE/MAX yesterday at the Stu Hurley, 7-4, with an entertaining performance by speedy Vito’s forward Dan Backa picking up 4 goals in the win.

Saint John City Gents Playoffs

If you are interested in following some of the city’s sensational gents league players in the SJCG Playoffs then you can check that out starting this week. It is actually some pretty good hockey, as far as non contact hockey goes, but some of the players have played some pretty good hockey growing up and don’t feel like dealing with getting banged up like they used to back in the day. Although it’s a gents league, it gets quite dirty and also may be one of the dirtiest and chippiest leagues in the city.
